I can't find my last post. I was wondering about my Abbey. Vet check found nothing. Not egg bound/ crop good. She pooped this morning its dry, green, no blood. She has been like this since last Friday. I have to force feed her. Vet said just let her rest, well thats not working. She freaks out with yogurt, going to get pediolyte today. Forced water, scrambled egg. If I take her out she falls over. She does grip my fingers with her feet when I hold her but keeps one foot curled when standing, she just started this. ONE WEEK shes been like this, there are no internal/external parasites. She was healthy one month ago when I got her. I can't believe she is still alive. I'm so sad.

If I keep her crated, obviously shes to weak to walk at this point and force feed her will she then end up with crop probems because she's not getting any grit. May be a dumb questions, sorry.

Check out threads on Marek's. Your little pullet is exhibiting symptoms of this disease. If you only feed her scrambled egg, yogurt and crumbles, there is no need for grit. Chickens only need grit to break down non-water soluble food.

She is actually a few years old thats why I didn't think it was Mareks. She's a Bantum I think. Today she gobbled up the yogurt yesterday she didn't want anything to do with it. I brought her outside in the grass this morning while it was cool but she just laid there with her eyes closed. It is unbelievable how long she had lasted, but as long as she doesn't give up neither will I. Her boyfriend Coco is doing just fine, very lonely but healthy so far.

Marek's does not have an age limit. Birds that were exposed as youngsters and then became carriers and birds that are under stress, such as a move, can become infected with Marek's. I really despise the age limit that most references put on Marek's...it is just dead wrong. I've lost, and am still losing, birds that range from 12 weeks - 15 months old.

You can try this vitamin protocol and see if it helps. .5mls poly vi sol, without iron, once daily and 400 ius vitamin E twice daily. Some say to use Selenium in conjunction with this as it helps the body absorb the vitamins better. My vet didn't mention Selenium so, you can chose to use it or, not.

I also use a lot of probiotics and protein.

Abbey passed away yesterday. Pretty weird she held on about 2.5 weeks. I just couldn't put her down if she was fighting so hard. Thanks everyone for all the advice. She just couldn't come back from whatever it was. Can you tell me if these are bantums or americaunas. When she went to the vet she was 1 pound so the most she weighed was 1.5 if that. I need to get Coco a mate.

Did she have feathered legs? She is definitely a bantam. If what she had, and the symptoms suggest it, was Marek's...you will not easily be able to bring in another chicken. I wish I would have caught this update in time, I would have suggested that you have a necropsy done to verify what it was. If it was Marek's, any unvaccinated chicken you bring in will be infected and more than likely die. I'm sorry for you loss
