Not being argumentive, but don't most of the experts say one nest to about 4 or 5 hens? Seems I have read that several times. I have 22 layers, and I put a "block" of wooden nests left from a previous coop, that is 4 nests across and 3 high. (12 nests) and they only ever use the bottom 4. The middle and top rows of 4 are completely ignored. Hens lay at all different times of the day, so they don't all need nests at the same time. And often, with empty nests right there, they will get into a nest together with another hen, and both lay their eggs in the same nest.
