Thanks for all the great feedback!! The existing structure was an old cement retaining wall, we think it might have been part of a substructure of a swimming pool that was never built. It is on a down slope of our yard. We made a nice path down to the coop, now we really use that part of the yard!

The other question about retrieving the eggs, on one side closest to the yard we have the egg boxes. This way I can get to the eggs really easy but just going out to the lawn. I will post a better picture to show this.
