We'll have 10 in all. Four RIR, four White Leg Horns and twoBarred Rock hens. I wil be adding more outside run space at a later date.

Raccoons will reach right through the chain link, grab a pullet and drag her trough the fence. It's a horrid way for them to go. Wrap hardware cloth around the chain link, at least around the bottom 3 feet.

Mama hen chris, I love your coop! But where are the roosts and all that? I'd love to make the inside of mine look similar but it looks so different than most I have seen!

I built this coop underneath the deck using the four 4x4 uprights in place there. It's about 27 square feet and includes two nest boxes, a storage area, rear and front clean-out doors, a pop door, ramp and a space for a plexiglass window (now covered with hardware cloth). There are 5 vents covered with hardware cloth - three of these (the largest) are inset so that when the weather is cold I can insert blocks to insulate the coop while still getting cross-ventilation from the smaller vents beneath the deck stairs and over the nest boxes. The floor is painted and there is a two-rung roost over a poop board. We currently are testing shavings as a deep litter. Next I will build a 10x20 ft run to extend forward from it.

The one on the left was our first attempt and it just wasnt to our liking so we keep it for new arrivals and it was left mostly unfinished. The one on the right is our newest coop and it was a weekend for my son and I to build and paint (mostly) forgive the brush piles we are still cleaning up lol
