What does it mean when there is a piece of red tissue in each egg? Is this stress? Can I prevent this in any way? The chicken is a two year old black sex-link. Thanks.

I have occasionally had those too from my BSLs. I hope somebody knows!

Is it a small (sometimes large) piece of dark red/brown-colored thing in it? If so, then that's a "meat spot". That's what it's called anyway. It's not "meat" or anything, so I don't know why it's called that. But it's completely normal to get those once and a while. Not sure why they are there, but they are harmless to eat with your egg. You could pick them out if you want though.

Try looking up pictures to see if it looks like what you found in your eggs.

It sounds like they are "meat spots" and we don't mind them, really, but if I give the eggs away, other people don't like the spots. I wish I knew how to prevent them. Any more info?

I don't know of anyway to prevent them, sorry.

Maybe you could just explain to your neighbors what they are and that they are harmless and could be removed if they really don't want to eat them?
