Our little week-olds have scratched a feeder-full of food out into their pine shavings. Now, there is a ton of food wasting in the shavings and not much left in their feeder.

First, is it okay to let them scratch and find what they've spilled? They won't starve, will they?

Second, how do I keep them from doing it again? We have a simple gravity-fed chick feeder (upside-down jar with holes for them to eat through, like you get at the feed store). Would it help to elevate it slightly?

With the mess they're making, we're not sure if we got pigs or chickens.

Raise the feeder up on blocks or 2x4s or something. I keep my feeders high enough they have to reach for the food, and they can't reach with their feet. Saves a lot of feed
