Never heard of feeding geese goat feed, it designed for goats. Buy an all flock feed like Purina Flock raiser or a Water fowl feed. designed for water fowl. My goose loves grapes split in half and w/w bread as a treat. good way to get to know them. Congrats on your new geese, looking forward to pics.

I have a full 50 lb bag of flock raiser purina brand too. I bought it for the ducks. I will go pull the goat feed and fill the pan with flock raiser. I don t think this woman ever visited this site she told me to give them cereal for treats.

if they have acsess to dirt then you won't need to put out grit but if they don't then be sure to give them grit. It might be okay to give the geese goat feed in a pinch but not for their sole ration. and they might like cereal, just not the sugary ones.

My gander is so picky he won't try much, he loves w/w bread so i give him about a slice a day, he comes to the back door when he thinks it's time. drives the dogs crazy they think someone is knocking on the door. lol, and I was feeding the chickens and ducks some grapes a while back and he tried one and has now gone bonkers over grapes. If I try to give him anything else he'll usually just kinda taste it then walk off like you gotta be kidding.

Oh how cute I hope mine come knocking too! I switched the feed and Jody the goat was fine getting the feed back second hand lol. I sprinkled DE around in the wood chips (I don t have ant dry hay so I am going to the feed store tomorrow) I think the next time I go check on them I am going to add some DE to the feed. I have no idea if geese get worms or parasites but I figure it can't hurt. Can it? It is food grade DE.

The stool of the geese is really runny. Is it because they are stressed or maybe diet related? I thought they should have a more solid stool.

*off to search the fridge for grapes*

They should have more solid poop, but could be stress. The only thing DE is good for is to keep the feed fresh. It really doesn't worm them I use 2 cups FG DE for every 50lbs. of feed. Geese aren't prone to parasites like chickens are unless kept in unsanitary conditions. I worm my ducks and goose when I worm my chickens only because they all drink out of the same buckets.

As Promised my geese photos. I simply could not keep them in the coop for an entire week. I checked the feces and no sign of worms. It firmed up so I do think it was so runny due to stress. They spent the night in the pond. D and I kept checking on them all evening and night like they were newborn babies and we wanted to make sure they were breathing, only in this case make sure no predators were going to strike.

D put a light up in a tree by the pond and they slept in the water. I think they will be safe. Everytime I go to check on them I bring a treat so they know I am the great treat dispensor. I am so happy!

I tried to capture the blue eyes of the males here. Not the best but you can see blue. In 'person' they are a beautiful baby blue.
