I love my Am Buff's, have four that are now almost 6 months old and look adult sized and feathered out beautifully. They are very friendly even though I had two geese raise them (7 year old Embden and 7 year old Toulouse). They love to interact w/me and know the sound of my vehicle motor and 4 wheeler engine two blocks away! They start honking to welcome me home, they quietly speak goose language when I check on them after they've gone to bed, they happily tell everyone about feeding time and treats the neighbors bring over (veggies).
I wanted Pilgrims last Spring but no goslings were available in my area so ordered the 4 American Buffs and am very pleased w/them. Some of the neighbors would like them for a Holiday feast but I am not giving up my "babies." I have not vent sexed them, they'll tell me when they are of age if I've got a gander in there...
Here's a pic from September w/their two "mama's" (the white and the grey geese)
The white goose has been laying eggs since I removed the ducks from the goose barn and while she's on the nest (unfertilized eggs) all the others go into the goose barn and lie down, waiting for Snowflake to come on out and rejoin them, they are very inquisitive, waddle over to the nest and take a look, gently, quietly talk about it, then they all waddle outside together.
I love them so much, I'm not sure if I'll stick w/the original plan to get Pilgrim goslings when someone goes broody or if I'll just stick w/the Am Buffs now...which is what I'm now leaning toward.
I love this pic of when they were little last Spring:
I'm looking forward to spending a long time with these geese and their brood(s).
