I have some Pilgrim hatching eggs due to arrive today - so excited! Above and beyond everything I've been reading (lots!), is there any incubating/hatching advice anyone has for a first time goose egg hatcher? I enjoy hatching chickens, but this is a first for me. Anything anyone has to share would be appreciated. Oh, one question has occurred to me, are goslings as dusty as chicks? (not that it matters at this point, just curious) Wish me luck!

Hum, dusty, no. However they are 100 times more muddy, mucky, poopy! But they are also way cuter also, so makes up for it.

Thanks! I can handle the "muddy, mucky, poopy" - but I wasn't sure my old lungs were gonna hold up to one more round of chick dust!

I've got pilgrims coming too! I can't decide if I'm going to put them in the bator or under my broody cochin. What day are you setting? I'll be watching this thread!

Great! It'll be really nice to have a hatching buddy! Have you hatched out goose eggs before? When they go in the bator will depend on when they get here. I'll have them settle for about 12 hours first. They're supposed to arrive today (

), so we'll see. Let me know what you decide to do with yours, when are they arriving?

BTW, I like your screen name. Don't know how old you are, but I'm from the original age group. I always refer to myself as a wilting flower child.

I am hoping my eggs come in saturday so I'll set sunday or monday. This is my first time setting goose eggs too! I really would rather the cochin do it and raise them but I'm not sure I want to give up control of the hatch! They'd be better off with a Hennie Momma though so I don't know!

Hey Hippiehen! My eggs are here!

And she sent FIVE! So excited! Have them resting. If I'm awake at midnight I might just stick them in tonight, otherwise tomorrow morning, first thing. Let me know about yours.

ETA: On second thought, I'm gonna recalibrate my hygrometers since it's been a couple of months since my last hatch. Sooo...tomorrow morning!

I had 5 little pilgrims moving around the incubator this morning. I have another 23 that should be ready to hatch next week.

This is what I did. Turned each egg 3 or 4 times a day. I tried to keep the humidity at around 40 to 45 percent for the first 26 to 27 days. At lockdown I went up on my humidity to 70 percent and waited it out. These 5 hatched on day 29.
