A few scrap boards will help. Once the chicks are week old the water and feed will be buried in pine shavings if the feed and water are not up on a board. Assume your using shavings for liter. Try to heat only one side of the brooder. When I brooded in small totes like that I used 60 or 75w incandescent bulbs. They are getting hard to find nowadays and stock piled a bunch from neighbors when they changed over to compacts. Now I use a large water trough for brooder in garage so the 125W heat lamp works perfect. Indoors with small totes think much less heat.
