I am very new to raising chickens. This past wednesday i got my first batch of 35 chicks, so as of today they are 4 days old. Ive built a chicken coop in the corner of my barn and plan to use straw as bedding once they get older. However i have heard that i should wait until they have pin feathers to let them walk on the straw or they will be too small and "drown" in the straw. Is this an accurate precaution to take? and about when should i expect to see the first pin feathers coming in?
