Pine and fir shavings

I bought a bale of shavings at the feed store yesterday. I was told that they were pine shavings. They are actually fir and pine shavings. Are they ok to use with the chicks?

Should be fine, as far as I know. It's just cedar that would be problematic, if I understand correctly. I don't think fir is as aromatic as cedar.

Oh good. Now I just need to find a place to buy DE as neither feed store carries it. Maybe the nursery?

Doubt the nursery will have food grade DE. Try Custom Milling. They have reps in places and carry Food Grade.

I have used a mixture of pine and fir shavings for long periods of time and haven't had any problems at all.
