Pine, Aspen or paper bedding for chicks?

Hello All,
I’ve used large pine shavings since 2003 inside my coops. I’ve used them brooders. I have to say, I’ve never lost a chicken to pine shavings and I’ve raised a whole lot of egg laying girls. I’ve watched baby chicks pick up small pieces, maybe thinking it was something to eat, most all sling it out of their mouths. There may be other factors concerning the toxicity of the pine, ie, poor ventilation, other exposures the shavings have been in, who knows, maybe I’ve just been lucky for the past ten years. I have no recommendations, I just know what has worked well for my girls and I.
