I am getting chicks in a couple weeks and am currently getting everything together for the brooder. I have a ton of pine needles in my yard and was wondering if it would be okay to use them as bedding for the brooder? Or would it be better to just purchase pine shavings instead? Any advice would be appreciated!!

I would recommend just plain old pine shavings (shavings, straw, etc.), as the pointy needles could poke out an eye; furthermore, any pine sap or resin could irritate their feet.
Best of luck!

I throw my pine straw into the run. I mostly use oak leaves for the boxes. I try not to buy anything. :caf
Where are you to have that much pine straw? LOL
