i've got one of those shredder/bagger/trailer i use with my lawn mower, it shreds the leaves and grass pretty well, i keep it stockpiled and use it in the run floor and around the run. i've used pine shavings and straw in the nests, my girls seemed to like the straw better, i put a pull out floor in my new coop i built last week, so i don't have to put anything on it, i just pull it out a couple of times a week and sweep or wash away the poo n goo!
don't know from personal experience, but everything i've read everywhere says not to use cedar shavings because of the respiratory problems caused....
