Pine shavings; where to get em!

America's choice is sold locally at Rural King and it is 4.99 for a bale I think---but that is the absolute worst stuff ever!! I could not believe the amount of dust in the shavings. I had a bag from Walmart earlier in the year and it was much better quality with almost no dust at all. I am going to try the local lumber mills though as that does seem to be the type I am looking for.

Wal-Mart has two sized bags. The smaller more $$ one is the one they put done at eye level The larger bag is something like 4 cu.ft. compressed down to 2 cu. ft. or something like that. They are nice big shavings and not really dusty at all! With my first chick (25) the one baq lasted me almost 3 full weeks and this was even after they learned to turn their waterers over and soak the shavings thoroughly in the process. They usually keep the big bags up on the top shelves where they do the "storage
' thing (put items less requested sometimes even in different sections of the store so ask where they are!) I pay $6.12 a bag I think. A good deal better than any feed stores etc. around here!

I have to agree that the larger sized shavings work better, don't mat up as quickly. The big bags at the Wally Worlds around here are over by the dog and cat stuff, over by the people food and not with the small mammal and fish supplies. TSC are the worst, we don't have anyone around here carrying Americas Choice so I have no op on them. We did have one small supply store that had shavings that came in a plain brown bale. Best bagged shavings I have ever seen, used them when I bred mice to feed my snakes. No dust and great size.
