I like to use pine shavings on the floor of my coop and run and I use straw in my nesting boxes. Lately I have been putting chips under the straw for absorption and it has been working well. So last week I tried an experiment of only pine shavings in two of my boxes and half my 19 birds started to lay in them.
I just wanted to put out there what I was doing for my girls and add the fact that I am tired of paying store prices for my pine. Tractor supply is $5 a bag at best and I know there has to be a better deal out there. I also use the pine for my ponies run in. I see that the pine can be purchased by the semi load delivered. I don't know the numbers on that quantity though. Anyone have any leads for someone in Genesee county Michigan? Maybe a co-op on a semi load?
