Pink eggs???

My light brahma lays a purplish/pink tinted egg most days.

Pink is truly in the eye of the beholder. You can ask for pink eggs and have thousands of people bring you simple light brown eggs, or brown eggs with a bloom on them, which does indeed make them pink, then you can even have people bring you purple eggs! (dark brown with bloom)

In my experience, Jersey Giants lay a very consistent "pink" (light brown w/bloom) egg. Every pullet or hen of mine lays the same nice pink, all through their lives. Their parents even laid a nice uniform pink, and the egg size is quite large! Brahmas, Wyandottes, and several other breeds like Shamos and the sort lay light brown eggs, but they usually aren't as "pink" - If they are, it isn't as consistent.

In this carton, the egg second from left on the bottom is a "pink" from a Jersey Giant. The plum-purple on the right is from a Marans, but such trait is unpredictable, and can happen with any random hen. Often it occurs frequently with a particular hen though. I myself only get it from a select few girls, and only get it about once a week.

Let's see. A couple of my LF brahma girls will throw a pink egg, one always has purple speckles on it. Two of my SFs lay an egg that is "pinkish'. I have one turken, Ivy, that lays a very long, narrow pink egg that's always shiny. Looks like it's been polished.

I have 2 BCM's that will give me a dark mauvish egg...almost purple...it is indeed extra bloom. Also, I have Black Langshans that lay a brown egg that has a purple hue, and my JG's laid pinkish eggs compared to my BO's, NH's. Our Light Brahmas lay a peachy colored egg. If there was a color I would want the MOST in my egg basket right now, it would be yellow...or a greenish yellow.

I know I know. I'm a few shades of Olive short. My only Olive Eggers are 2 months behind from any expected egg laying.

It is a long and cruel wait.

My BA lays tan eggs that have a pinkish cast compared to the more yellowish tan of the SLW's eggs.

But I wouldn't say they were pink.

Hello JordanFamily, how has your pink egg quest turned out? I think I want to start a journey like that myself! I want to know if you have met with any success . Could we breed it in? It would prob take alot of line breeding and might be a Funny looking chicken when we are done!
