My silkies are about 4 months old and can not see much. They stand outside confused as to where to go because they can't see out from under their crests. I bought pink hair tape and have been experimenting how to best pull back their feathers. Does anyone have a good technique for doing this. They kind of look like pink gang members. Could I see some pics of how the rest of you did it?

I had the same problem with one of my Silkies - when i would let her out to free range, if she got more than a couple feet from the coop, so looked totally lost. I decided to give her a little hair cut, just around her face, with my kids' safety scissors. Seemed to help a lot.

I haven't tried the hair tape, but I've heard it works quite well. I keep open waterers -- like shallow buckets -- out in the pens. I thought the silkies were not too bright when I saw them dunking their heads in the water, but the ones that do it can actually see -- so I guess they're smarter that I thought!

Not a Silkie, but I believe this is what you're talking about? I use hairties on my Polish during the winter months because it rains SO much out here, and the rain weights down their crests. Also, the mud gets in there, and they can't see because of it.

That'd be one of them!

Another type is the clear plastic "bands" that they use on horse manes:

You can also try hair gel for humans...um...there's one more thing that I've seen used but I'll be darned if I can't remember it.

Yes I also use the clear tiny cheap dollar store rubberbands. I found it is better to use 2 ponytails (one above each eye) than only one big ponytail. You have to make sure it's not so tight that their eyes are pulled open in a SURPRISE! look... LOL
