Today is day 19 (barely) of my hatch. I used the dry method of incubating this time and things look much better than before. Hubby and I were talking about the fact that it was time to go into lockdown. We pulled the eggs out for the last time to candle and mark air sacks and noticed that we had a huge pip and zip 3/4 of the way around our double yolked E/E. I am so excited right now!!! I can barely contain it.

Has anyone ever had an DY pip and zip itself? I can not see an external pip yet, through the inner membrane, but a definite breaking of the shell in two distinct spots,(with shell missing) and a crack joining the two. I wasn't expecting anything to happen until thursday because my other hatches were all late. Looks like this will be a LOOOOONG week.

Edited to add: YAY! I can add photos!!!!

Oh. Wow. I've never tried incubating a DY egg, but I've heard of some successful hatches, though the odds are small and most don't make it. Sometimes they manage to hatch by themselves and sometimes they need help, but it looks like these guys are doing well! Please keep us posted and take lots of pics!

This one is a bit strange so I hope someone who has done assisted hatch before will chime in. The zip line has grown which allows me to see the inner membrane. I have been keeping it moist, ....but there are no veins there. Almost as if it is a second air sac, or void created by the chick at the top? I have piped the aircell on the fat end so that the guy in there can breathe and I could get a better look at whats happening. It looks as if they are head to tail, like human twins. Veins are drawing down really well. so for now I think all is good. More waiting. I noticed the zip line at 5:00 a.m. CST so I imagine they were at it for a while before then, but to be safe I am 5 hours in at this point.
