Pipd's Peeps!

I still have Malcolm. Trudi-patooti sadly passed away this spring, though. :( I never was sure what happened, although I feel like I may have been responsible. I had been trying something out with them for a friend and miscalculated the amount of Denagard to give them, so they were way overdosed. I didn't even realize until months later, either, so that really stung.
you should double check dosage with casportpony. She is very good at that kind of thing

It WILL be a relief when the boys are gone. It's always a hard choice right up until the time I drop them off. Then the peace and tranquility reminds me of why they're gone.

Yeah, I remember that from last year. It was agonizing, but once it was done, it was soooo peaceful here...

I think it was her post that I pulled the dose-per-gallon off of. The mistake was in calculating for more than one gallon. I was measuring into two 2-gallon buckets of water and for some reason put the amount for 4 gallons into both.

That will do it! I usually use a quart measure to make sure I have the correct dosage. I don't trust that a bucket will really hold the amount advertises. It is like using dishware teaspoons to measure in instead of baking measuring spoons. They are not very accurate.

Okay, y'all know at this point that I have a thing for frogs, right? I found this little guy, an Eastern Gray Tree Frog (Hyla versicolor ;) ) on the fence post of the rooster pen this morning, about 8 inches from the ground--you know, chicken food if he were to remain there.

So, I just had to move him, of course. Picture on the road. He was too cute, moved to the end of my finger and kept looking around like he was picking out his spot. :love

And in his new, safer location on a branch above my head. :love What a cutie!

Now, I had planned on getting update pictures of the babies today since they are now 14 and 15 weeks old, but it is such a mess out there from the rain and SOOOO mosquitoey that I'm not sure if I want to be out there much. I also have a quiz to study for (already :hmm ) and some terms to memorize, plus I have to go to bed early because Mondays are my early days this semester, so it may just have to wait for time constraints. Of course, having schoolwork has always been my best motivator for doing things with the chickens... We'll see.

Nothing too specific. There are lots of things I'd like to do, but unfortunately many of them require experience, which I don't have because I guess raising chickens for most of my life doesn't count when applying at a zoo or animal sanctuary. ;) I may end up working for a while at somewhere that my degree doesn't apply to so that I can spend some time volunteering at the zoo or somewhere similar for that experience. Or, alternatively, getting a job with the state or with a preservation group as a naturalist to help with upkeep and monitoring of a nature preserve. Those are the two that I'm most considering, anyway. Ideally, in the area, though there's really no guarantee that will happen. Not sure if I could give up chickening for any length of time to take a job outside of what's realistic to commute, though... But yeah, first I've got to finish these two classes for those last few credits. :fl

P.S. I have the pictures of the babies, will get them cropped and posted eventually. They're hardly babies anymore, though. :love
