Pipd's Peeps!

I didn't realize they still featured flock pages on the home page, but apparently someone liked my Dorking page enough that it's featured now. Aw, shucks!

That's great. You have a lot of info there. I gave it a :thumbsup.
Do dorkings do ok with a mixed flock confined in a run - not always able to free range?
I've read a few mixed reviews regarding confining them.

Thanks! :D I've never had problems with them getting picked on and they're definitely not bullies. I do think a lot of it has to do with other personalities in the flock, though. Over the years I've picked out the breeds I like and let other breeds die out, so it could just be because most of my breeds are more docile now. I'm not sure if the Dorks would get pushed around by more temperamental birds like the production reds I had years ago, for example.

Also, I would swear I replied to this not long after you posted, but I guess not. So, sorry I didn't reply sooner!

Pulling down the driveway to head to class, I glanced over at the mini yard where Mr. Purple Band has been staying to see that there was not one, but two little black and white birds in that yard. I don't know how, I don't know where, but Bryony hopped over the 6 foot fence between the mini yard and the main chicken yard. :th I was already running a bit behind and Bry doesn't exactly come to me, so she had to spend much of the day in the pen with Mr. Purple Band. I just got home about 45 minutes ago, grabbed her (after having to put up a fence panel to corner her  ), and took her in for a wing trimming. Naughty baby!

The good news is Mr. Purple Band was very well behaved with her, didn't chase her or peck at her, or at least that I saw. He may be a worthwhile keeper after all... :fl Anyway, he hasn't been named yet, and as I mentioned a page or two ago, I tried the name Jasper with Bryony but it didn't fit. I was thinking maybe Jasper would be a good name for him instead. We'll see... :)

I didn't even see this reply until now!
Just making wish lists for future birds. :)

Ah, the ever-growing "Want-list"... I understand. :D What'cha got so far?

I think I passed 50 breeds on my want-list not too long ago... and that's not even including all the varieties. But I do have a separate section for breeds I actually have interest in raising for preservation, which totals only 8 chicken breeds and one duck breed. :D Some of those will be a challenge to find. I don't know that anyone in the U.S. still raises Partridge Barthuhners, for example. :( It's a shame, because they are beautiful birds and, from all reports, docile as well. But, I already have my Silkied Cochin line to work with, so at least that's one rarity I won't have to hunt down. :)

I've had a looooong day, but I did take some pictures, so I thought I'd post them real quick before bed. :) Enjoy!

It was the first day of fall today! Most believe it's called such because of the falling leaves, but around here, it's got more to do with the falling feathers. :p

I wanted to get a better picture of Jasper, so here it is! I also tried to get update pictures of Rufus and Russell because I didn't last time, but the lighting was all weird in their pen, so... Here's Jasper, anyway! Still behaving himself, so so far so good!

Still getting plenty of eggs despite the seasonal changes. There was a line for the nests this afternoon! This is Rowena, Rooska, and Tessa.

Rowena didn't want any pictures of her taken while she was getting ready to lay.

Here's Roha, looking dreamy. :love

Vivi, Josey, and Mavey. :love Every day at free-range time, they all jog together out to the side yard to forage.

A close up of Myrna with a feather askew. Ain't she sweet? :love

Crash and Malcolm are getting along pretty well these days! :D

The last picture is of a tiny wildflower and it turned out way better than I thought it would, so I thought I'd share. :love

Our overnight low is 42 F, and since Elda was not acting too happy about our abruptly cooler weather today, I thought I'd go ahead and bring her in for the night, just to be safe. This gives me the chance to check her crop in the morning, too, without having to pull the feed for everyone. :)

And I think that's it from around here. Y'all, I'm wiped out! :th Time to hit the hay! Good night!

Elly's doing great this morning! Empty crop, and she was eager to get back outside! It's still cool, but she's doing fine with it so far. :D

Here's what I rolled over to see this morning, though:

Something tells me she was getting tired of waiting for me to get up.

Anyway, I also grabbed this pic this morning because I was amused. Somehow ( ) Jasper ended up like this in his food pan when I was moving him to the mini yard for the day, and he just stayed like this for the longest time. :p
