Pipd's Peeps!

So sorry to hear about Havok 😢 RIP sweet girl! I’m glad she was with you in her final moments.

Happy new years too! I hope this year is MUCH better!

Thanks ā¤ That was definitely a tough loss.

Definitely hoping for a better year than the curse that was 2020! So far so good, but of course we're only 11 days in. :fl

I'm already about a week behind this year for the January monthly photos of the youngsters, oops! I guess I've been putting it off a bit. Now I can't decide if it would be better to do today while we're still in freezing temps or tomorrow when we're supposed to be above freezing. It's a choice between my hands being frozen today and the ground potentially turning to mud and making a mess tomorrow. 😬

In the mean time, here is Ganymede pretending to be queen of the flock this morning and surveying her kingdom. Bow down or be punished with finger pecks! 🤣

Well.... Surprise! Sybil laid an egg today!

And yep, you betcha, it's gonna go into the incubator. 🤣 ...Once I've collected about 6 or so, at least, as single hatchlings are no fun.

Oh, about those pictures, um... Yeah, I never got around to them yesterday, oops! Gotta get those today! It never warmed up like predicted, so I guess the options were actually whether I wanted to freeze my hands yesterday or freeze my hands today. :idunno

That is good news for the Easter Hatch a long!

I alllllllmost forgot to post them, but I did actually take the pictures today as I've been saying! 🤣 I'm just going to go through them real quick as it's getting late here and I was just headed to bed when I remembered them!

First up, the 9-monthers! My silkie-feathered Cochins were inside their part of the coop because it was a chilly day with a cutting wind and no one wanted to deal with that, apparently. :p

Here's Dandelion, my round white fluff :love

Big man Gus šŸ˜ I had what I thought was a much better picture of him that I took, but when I went to crop it I realized it was VERY out of focus 😩 So here is Gus with a derp face instead 😁

Lovely, round Myrtle šŸ’•

Myrtle.jpg

And Zinnia, out of the nest this time 🤣 With this cold, she's actually stopped laying altogether, which has me a bit puzzled as none of my bantam Cochins have ever stopped laying just because it's cold before šŸ¤”

Zinnia.jpg

Last of the 9-month-olds is Buzz, the Silkie x Cochin bantam mix. Wish I could say he finally cooled his attitude, but alas. 😩

On to the 7-monthers, let's start with the younger Silkie x Cochin bantam mixes, beginning alphabetically with Amaretto ā¤

Amaretto.jpg

Armada, who also has quite the attitude! She was trying to hop up to the perches tonight and I reached down to help her up, only for her to peck my hand--twice!

Naughty girl! She's been hanging around her half-sister Ganymede too much, I guess.

Armada.jpg

Armada had posed a bit better just a second before that picture was taken, but Cazzie Cochin stuck her big ol head in the way right as I snapped it!! 🤣 These birds!

Anyway, here is Gluttony, who was having none of the chilly weather today ā¤

Peanut Butter with an inquisitive head tilt :love

And our boy Rosey, who's turning out to be quite handsome šŸ˜

And lastly, the OEGBs at 7 months old, roughly. This was a tough set of pictures to crop, just mentally. šŸ˜” But I am loving how these birds are maturing and getting to be SO beautiful!

Here is Feldon, who still needs his tail to finish filling out 🤣

Feldon.jpg

Louis, going for the Yokohama look with his tail lowered, I guess :idunno

Louis.jpg

Our lovely Sumi šŸ˜ I think the indoors life is treating her too well--look how round she's getting! 🤣

Sumi.jpg

And TROLL šŸ˜ These Fawn fellas are just so impossibly gorgeous!!

Troll.jpg

Last picture of the set, here's Peanut Butter surrounded by a bunch of marshmallows 🤣 This would probably have been her main picture except Armada stuck her head up in the way at the last second, of course! What a day of photobombs!

And that's it! Good night, everyone! :frow

Our little Sumi laid her first egg yesterday! 😭 My babies are growing up!!

Here is her egg between a Ganymede egg and a bantam Cochin egg! I don't have any large fowl eggs to compare to at the moment so that's the best I could do 🤣

In other news, it took until yesterday for Sybil to lay a second egg for the planned hatch. šŸ¤” Hopefully that was a hiccup and not her current laying schedule, as it could be difficult to get a good hatch going with 5 days between each egg collected...

...And that's about it at the moment.

Not a lot happening here because a fine dusting of snow is keeping everyone grumpy and inside. Myself included. :p

I hope you get more eggs to hatch!

Sybil kept laying as I'd hoped and I set 7 eggs today :wee That includes the first one, which is 2 weeks old, and a couple of the older ones (9 days old at the oldest) that are a little bit off, shape-wise, so I'm not sure what to expect from them. But here's hoping for some Valentine's babies!! :fl I think I might hold onto any further eggs from her since her newer ones seem to be the appropriate shape, and if things don't seem to be developing in this batch as they should be by day 7, I'll toss those in, too. I have a second incubator I can use as a hatcher, so I'm not too concerned about staggering them. 😁
