Pipd's Peeps!

The warmest spot is 100° That is where she stands. I've shown her the water a few times. I've shown her feed. I put the scrambled egg in the area and showed her that. The others ate it up! She is as big as the ones her size. It's just her energy level isn't what I expect. She stands with her wings out - -which I thought was her feather growth bothering her.

I'm going to check on her at lunch. This will probably post weird as im on my phone. Ugh.

Does she drink on her own after you show her the water or only when you make her?

Are her wings out to the sides like what adults do when they're too warm, or out as in drooping down at her sides?

I would dip her beak in the water a couple times every time I checked on her to make sure she was getting some water in her. Also keep up the Nutri-drench, just a drop for some energy when you check on her. You're doing everything you can. :hugs

I just checked on her, she is doing much better! All the chickies were sleeping and as soon as I started talking, they were running all over the brooder. Venturing into areas they've never been. 😂

She's holding them off to the side like she is warm. I will give her some more nutri-drench this evening. Thanks for your help!

All chicks are doing good. :wee
I did have one fiasco to take care of though. The rooster and my EE decided to fight through the fence. I'm not sure who the winner was, but they both look rough. I'm going to keep the 2 bantams in the shed until this weekend when I can fortify the fence for a better integration. When I've integrated before, I've not had issues. But, I also had a different lead hen and I think that's part of the issue. Plus, I think the rooster is defending his mate. It might have been better just to let them roam the run. At least yesterday it seemed that the fighting was minimal. Apparently today they weren't giving up. :barnie

Chickens :barnie Make the best plans and they'll find a way to foil you anyway!

It's kind of funny, though, yesterday one of the silkied Cochin cockerels (I don't remember which) and Tessa, one of my Dorking hens, also got into it through the fence and wouldn't quit! Must have been something in the air! Anyway, Tess finally walked away with what I'd guess is the chicken equivalent of a fat lip, a swelling at the corner of her beak like she'd been clocked one, and both of them had little nicks and scrapes on their combs and faces from their tiff. In my case, though, they've been living a fence away from one another for months and haven't had an issue until yesterday. I say again, chickens :barnie

I'm pretty sure Zuzu was the winner in that fight. She's just missing her beard where as he has more trauma in his comb and wattles.
I was able to put up another barrier at the bottom of the fencing so that I could have the 2 back outside. I watched for a bit. The rooster was tidbitting and picking up straw. ZuZu was mimicking his head going up and down. Then I saw hackles raise. Eventually Zuzu walked away. I just hope they can work things out.
The chicks seem fine. They are all over the brooder. Some were even resting in the cool end. One had intestinal lining in their poo - or is it too early for that? I have corid and can treat if needed.
I looked at the 2 you thought were spangled, they have slate colored legs and feet as well as the one that hopefully is a girl. I looked at Hoovers, they don't mention having spangled oegb. I know they aren't the best hatchery so obviously it's most likely just bad breeding. I kind of wish I had ordered from Meyers. Which, I might still do once I figure out how many cockerels I actually have.
Speaking of cockerels, I have noticed the wattles and comb on my little cochin. I'm wondering if this means cockerel. They would be at least 2 weeks now.

I know it's tough to watch, but they'll work it out eventually. :hugs

As for the chicks, was it confirmed that Hoover's is where they got their chicks? Hoover's seems to be the go-to for a lot of feed stores, but they also often order through Privett, which has the more obscure breeds like Spangled OEGBs. I assumed that must have been the case, but I see Hoover's has literally everything else you got, and their assorted OEGB page does show a chick that looks suspiciously like a Spangled even though they don't list it as a possibility... 🤔

Intestinal lining looks like little fleshy bits in their droppings, while coccidiosis causes distinctly blood colored droppings or the fluid off of them, so you might see a bit of blood soaked into the bedding around a dropping as well. If you're worried about it, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and run a round of Corid through them to be safe. 🙂

And yeah, that little guy does look like a cockerel. :hmm
