Pipd's Peeps!

I'd love to do a grazing frame, so would love to see and hear about it!
Looks like you've got your chickens all in a row and a circle! 😂 Who needs ducks? :lau

Whelp, guess who decided it was broody time? Yup, Ivy. She's so young too. I've got my work cut out with this one. She doesn't like the broody jail, but she does like the meal service for 1. :D
I had a 6 month old go broody and she raised chicks better than the 2yr old.

Will do! I think I have a decent idea for one that should work, so I'll make sure to post once I get it set up and let y'all know how it's working over time! 🙂

Ah, darn. Hopefully she breaks easily! :fl And hopefully she doesn't decide she likes the service there and keeps going broody just for a break 🤭

Wish I could say the same! I let a few younger girls hatch last year and it was awful! :barnie Never again! Youngest this year were almost a year old and they were much better at it than last year's youngsters.

Picture of the day 60--a quick quick check in and then it's out the door to close coops--if I can get the darn pictures to load! :th

...Okay, it's getting uncomfortably dark here and the birds are waiting, so I'll post the pictures real quick when I get in if I can get them to load then! :barnie

All right, round 2--let's try this again. Picture of the day 60! Coco says is this thing working yet?!

And a couple runners up. Here are a bunch of fuzzies tackling breakfast this morning. 🤭 Pete is in the lower right, pretty sure Coco is just to his left, I think that's Phoebe on the upper right, I know Roxanne is the Red girl in the dish and I'm pretty sure that's Janice next to her, and I think the last two are unnamed but one of them might be my Ivy. 🤔

This one's blurry as heck because I zoomed way in to get it, but three Splash cockerels keeping an eye on this very suspicious water dish... I decided this morning to replace the baby waterer that I'd been sitting out there because it's a pain in the butt to clean every day compared to the simple dishes, not realizing I'd put such a frightening entity into their space.

...And almost 45 minutes later, the pictures have finally attached! :th Goodness gracious, I'm just gonna go to bed!

Granted the young broodies are my Phoenixs and hatchery Sebright crosses. Those Sebright crosses are so gamey. 🤣 The 6month old momma chased Midge the chicken cat out of the pen because she got to close.

I love Coco's selfie! 🥰

The fuzzies. ❤️

And the splash cockerels. Too funny. :lau

That probably makes a big difference! I've heard that games are some of the best broodies there are!

My young broodies were Cochins, so pretty much as far away from gamey as you can get, short of Silkies. 🤭 My Cochins make good mothers once they're fully mature, but those young broodies were awful. One ignored her crying, hungry peeps to brood on their empty egg shells for two days until I realized and removed them so that she would focus on the chicks she'd hatched, and even then it took her more than a week to actually take care of them. The other would hop up to roost every night and expected her days-old peep to be able to follow her, and half the time I'd find her outside of the little fenced off area I made for her to brood in, meanwhile the poor baby is peeping desperately because her mama left her. :barnie The more mature Cochins have done much better with their babies this year.

Eep sounds like Zilla! The Phoenix and Sebright mix girl have taken over caring for the babies now as Zilla decided she has better things to do.

Zilla is my blue cochin. 🤦‍♀️
