Pipd's Peeps!

KBahaha, they are both shaping up very nicely so far! :love The cockerel's a bit bitey, though, so we'll have to work on that. :tongue
Lol, it seems the early bloomers do have a bit more spice than the late bloomers 🤣

Don't tell my silkies, but if I had seen your silkied cochins before getting the silkies... I like the fact the cochins can see. I did more eye trims last night, the really heavy crested ones you can easily tell they are trimmed, they look like little punk rockers going around with shaved up the sides + mohawks

Picture of the day, day 14! We made it to 2 weeks, y'all! :yesss: Today's honoree is Endymion, AKA Dym-Dym or recently 'Dymothy'. ...That last one's a bit of an inside joke with some friends. 🤭

Runners up, or, well, kind of just coincidentally taken pictures from this morning. I wanted to get some decent shots of some of my silkied Cochin grow outs for comparison's sake later on, but it works for this, too. 🤭 First up is the first Judy booty pullet I hatched for the Easter hatch along:

The cockerels from that hatch were not as cooperative. Guy on the left is the other Judy booty from Easter. Look at him!! 😍

It's pretty dim in the pen that the next oldest peeps are in that early in the morning, but I tried to get a couple shots of them as well. Both of these are Blue bander pullets as well:

(This one turned out terribly, but look at that face :love )

Haven't lost any more to perdition. Just one failure to thrive.

Soo the pen we've been building still had water lingering in it yesterday. I'm going to be getting 6 bags of pea gravel each day at work to fill in and see how that works. Have to limit it to 6 bags because I'm hauling with a mustang. Lol.

I was reading thinking, wow, they have a daily limit on selling pea gravel? Hmm 🤔
Oh, you have a cargo capacity limit 😄

For sure, my OEGBs were combing up by 3 weeks and already getting saddles by like 5 weeks, and they're the spiciest little squirts you ever did see 🤣

I'm the same way about the Silkies. I loooove silkied feathering, but I hate large crests, especially ones that block vision, so the Silkies really didn't do much for me. As soon as I saw a picture of a silkied Cochin bantam, I knew that was what I wanted to have instead. 🥰

OH, OH!! And in one of the groups I'm in on Facebook, someone posted silkied large fowl Cochins the other day!! I about died! 😍 If they hadn't just been Whites, I probably would be pawning off some valuables to get them ASAP 🤣

Hopefully that does the trick! :fl I've heard that wood chips are good for that, too, if you find that the pen is still a mess despite the gravel.

What breed is Dymothy? She's gorgeous!

Dymi is an Easter-egger, and I agree, I think she's one of the prettiest I've ever had 😍

Picture of the day today, day 15! Ottilie says, 'Does this fluff make my butt look big?' 🤣

Runners up, we have Ivy again looking adorable 🥰

Mallow likes to fly up on this vine to feel tall 🤭

And... some trouble in paradise. 😟 This morning, Inara decided she no longer wanted to share the babies with Morena. I thought about trying to split the pen so the peeps could go between their mamas but not have to be separated... but it just would be too complicated with the space and supplies I have available. Since Morena did more brooding and did a better job of keeping her eggs warm, I decided to pull Inara out for a time out and let Morena keep the peeps. Inara then sat outside the fence like this to stay close to the babies and about broke my heart. 💔

It's dark and stormy, and possibly as a result the birds have been setting off pretty much non stop all morning, so I went back out to check on them a little while after that and Inara had hopped the fence back in with Morena and the babies. They seem to be getting along now, so here's hoping they just had a little spat and are over it now. :fl

I'm wondering if my hubby would notice if I one by one replaced my silkies with silkied cochins... he knows how much time and $ I've put into the silkies, so I'd have to be really strategic about the swap 🤣

I have a small crested hen that I'm really excited to hatch from and hopefully decrease the crest size on some of mine. I just trimmed a 13 wk old satin pullet and I thought I cut quite a bit and then I saw her in the run and she still can't see :barnie

Oh my, silkied LF cochin!?! That's super tempting, I'd love that in BBS...
