Pipd's Peeps!

Spring cleaning the coops is exhausting. When I went out the other day, I gave myself 2 hours. Well, by the time all was done (and poor JJ passing), it was 3.5 hours. That was just the duck area and I haven't put out their warm weather waterers yet. I'm exhausted just thinking about the rest of the work. I'm also exhausted reading about all that you've done!

Yeah, it was many more hours than I figured I would be putting into the job as well. Somehow, a quick coop cleaning always turns into a full afternoon's work :th I also haven't gotten the warm weather waterers cleaned and set up for my birds yet, but I suppose I should do that today while we have nice weather. I also really, really need to get all of last year's Cochin hatches sorted out by who are keeps and who are culls... So I guess one more day of some level of work and then I'll have Friday and the weekend to rest up for classes to start up again.

Enjoy the rest of your spring break. I hear there is some wicked weather coming this weekend though. So, get out and enjoy it before the storms pop up.

I heard that as well, hence needing to get the Cochins sorted out sooner rather than later. Any amount of rain and they're soaked beyond being able to properly judge them, so I certainly can't put that off until the weekend at least. 😩 Hope you've been enjoying the weather as well. It's been so nice out this week!

Are y'all sick of me being on break yet? 😅

Reporting in with Delphine, we have more positives and more concerns, ugh. I've been tubing her meals and her droppings are looking pretty good. However, her neck has gone more wonked again. She's practically laying her head flat against her shoulders.

She did appear to be attempting to drink last night after her meal. She would lift her head up and sort of point her beak toward the water. But her head and neck shook as if the exertion of just that was too much, and she never actually managed to get a drink. She seems to be hydrated still based on skin turgor, but I may go ahead and add an extra meal in today and see if that helps with energy and hydration.

Morena, meanwhile, finally perched herself again last night! She'd been trying to sleep in the nest boxes since the attack on Saturday, so I was pleased to see that change! I never did bring her in to tube her as I had considered, but she seems to be getting along okay where she is and I don't want to stress her, either by removing her from her flock or by having to reintegrate her later on.

In the mixed flock, we've got a bunch of bumps on a log this morning. One of them seems a bit out of place in the group, though... 🤔

Also, here's Freia, who does not appreciate the coolness of the morning after the nice, warm weather we've been having. 🤭

And I think Vega agrees with her on that.

No never sick of your posts!

Have you tried treating Delphine for wry neck? I don't know what treatments your giving her of course.

My girls were not appreciating the cooler weather either. 😄

I did give some thought to trying that. 🤔 I'm not sure that it's actually a wry neck and not just pain from her injuries, though. She will lift her head up and look around, she just keeps it hunched and tilted off to the side when she's resting. I'm thinking I need to look into what pain relievers are safe for chickens. However, it wouldn't hurt to add some vitamins and selenium to the roster as well!

Not out of the woods yet, but it does certainly feel like we're heading in a positive direction with them both. 😁

No, not yet! Loving all the chatter. 🥰

I posted about the silkied Cochins on their thread over here if anyone wants to see all of my pictures and notes on them: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...to-the-standard.1555327/page-72#post-28466870 I do feel I was a bit scattered in trying to get the notes down with the right birds, though, so uh.. Sorry about that

Cross posting this little lady here, though. After the mink attack, I was particularly sad because I thought I had lost track of which of the pullets growing out in the mixed flock were out of Judy. The pullet I lost, I thought she was the only one I could be sure of was a Judy baby anymore.

But apparently I put a pink leg band on this little lady to remember that she was also a Judy baby. :love And she's absolutely gorgeous, just like her mama!

I'm going to have to really brainstorm name ideas for her. It has to be absolutely perfect! 🥰
