There is like a dime size hole that it has taken about 24 hours to peck away.. Its chirping and i can see its beak

is this normal..

oh ya and its day 18 today......

there are several threads on here on how to do that. i've not done it but i will try to find the link

Day 18? That seems pretty early even if it were a bantam since they sometimes hatch a day early. I hope some experienced hatchers chime in. I wonder if the chick is even ready to come out of the shell.

Yes i just read a thread about, intervention: helping your chicks hatch. I would like to know what some one else thinks. It is chirping and making some pretty decent jolts. But also not really getting anywhere. It hasnt gotten anything done for like 2 hours since ive been watching it.

I would not touch it! Don't open the bator the chick can live for 3 days without food. What is your humidity? What has it been? What are your temps? I have the method I use to hatch on my website listed under my screen name. I can tell you first hand stepping in too early is not always in the best intrest of your hatch. Yes you can save some that truly need help but you chance shrink wrapping the others.

I dont have a humidity gauge... I know its high tho..There is a small bit of condensation on the window. Is that to much?

I just shined a flashlight in there... Its sure a big chick..there is black feathers all the way up to the edge.

Its still peeping and its trying to work on the membrane.. I want to help but i think i should not

Has it already zipped? Or just pipped? If it hasn't already started zipping then I would let it be for a while longer. Sometimes when they zip for some reason, the membrane only gets torn in certain places and the chick is unable to pop the top off, and then you'll need to help.

Trust me, you do not want to help, it's a bad feeling when you help one out and they die. I say let mother nature take it's course. I helped one out today, it should have hatched 2 days ago, so it was on its 24th day, and it died as soon as I got it out. I wish I would have just let it be....................
