Piper's owners came

And it would be great for her to go live in TX, I think she'd like it there! I'm still hoping they'll deside she isn't worth the trouble and offer to let her stay!

yeah, my mom is driving to near Fort Smith for the next few days...she wanted to pick her up for me

if they don't want her let me know!
she would be a house dog until we can fence this fall when it is NOT 110+ all day!

THis is so sad!

No I haven't offered yet, I had kind of hoped to catch them in a frustrated moment where they'd be more likely to let her go. But so far they act like it's no big deal to have to pick her up, and don't even seem to notice how badly she doesn't want to be w/ them. They act like they really like her, they've blamed her running away on her being in heat (she's not) or because thier other outside dog (don't know if they have inside dogs, but they said outside dog) was run over. And they blamed her not wanting in the car because it's to small for her, when in reality, although it was smaller then the van we had hauled her in, it was actually roomer and less crowded (and would have been easier for her to get in and out of), and besides that she desided not to go w/ her long before they were anywhere near the vehicle.

I have not heard anything from them since the last time they picked her up, don't know if she's still home, or missing again. I can't help but look for her everytime I go anywhere.

That is sad and i know just how you feel.
In my younger days i worked in a boarding kennel/cattery.

I will never forget one little cat - it was the most affectionate, laid-back little sweet-heart. You can imagine most cats in a cattery are a little stressed and take a while to settle in. This one was very smoochy and friendly and i cuddled it everyday... until the owner came..

I remember commenting to the owner how sweet and loving the cat was and that i wouldn't need to put her in cat box to bring her up - WRONG! the cat laid like a ragdoll in my arms as i walked up to the office, but the lady called out to the cat and she immediately tensed and dug her claws in, harder the closer the owner came. The lady tried to take her off me and the cat took off. She ran away from the lady and was trying to find a way back in to the cattery!

Broke my heart, i had to catch her and put her in a cage for the lady...

Then you know exactly how I feel, it was so hard forcing her to go w/ someone she clearly didn't want to go w/.

I still look for her every day, but last I heard she came in heat and they have her locked away, so I probably won't see her for awhile. They think that is why she left, but it couldn't be more clear to me that she's just not that happy there. She happily stayed w/ me and I don't have any intact male dogs (and I know other houses that do, she could have easily gone there).

Yes, it is a real bummer.

There was a little dog at the same kennel too ... Benji - he was a timid, sweet poodle cross. The owner left him for a 3 month stay and we had to give him special attention because he wouldn't eat unless he felt loved.

we used to bring him up to the office during the day and he would follow us around. It was my job to put him back in the kennel at night - he hated it big time, it was so sad.

This time the owner didn't come back for Benji, we tried to find the guy but it appeared to all of us that the dog had been dumped. I ended up taking him home with me! It was a dream come true for both of us...

But I had him for about 6 months, when suddenly out of the blue the owner came back to pick him up!

That was REALLY tough, and you know i always wished that i had tried to visit him and find out if he was happy..

BUT having said all that, i now have my own little shaggy black mutt -a very similar dog named Pippa. she's 100% pure lap dog who was left to me by a dear friend who passed away. Pippa goes with me everywhere and hates to be left for even a minute. She has the best life, even sleeps under my bed covers. Yet she can put on the best "sad sack" act you've ever seen, nearly everyone who meets her wants to take her home - she will go up to strangers in the street and will get into the visitors cars when they leave. If i leave her outside for too long she will escape the yard and go and sit on the neighbours doorstep and pretend she is lost...
