I have an egg that pipped In the middle of the egg. It has been 28 hours. The pip is now a large crack, but has not progressed. It is still chirping and breathing. I am worried as it is the egg my 11 year old has been super attached to.
What to do?

Can you see if it is making a chewing motion? If it is, then it is still absorbing the yolk sac and is not ready to hatch yet. Being a pip in the middle of the egg, it may also be an internal + external pip which could take up to 48 hours before it starts zipping.

All I can see is the flap going up and down sometimes and it peeping in response to the hatched chick. We are on day 22 and they are bantams. There are 5 other eggs that have pipped and not zipped, but this one has been taking so long. We will wait till morning to see how it's going. Thanks for the info!
