Pipped, then died.

I’m hatching out some turkey eggs. They’re not due till Saturday, but a couple have already hatched.

This little guy pipped last night, and has obviously died. No movement, no breathing. Just his egg tooth sticking out of the shell.

Oddly, though. Some sort of liquid leaked out of the pip and dried almost to a resin. So much like a resin, in fact, that the egg had rolled into the one next to it, and was basically stuck like glue thanks to the liquid.

I cracked the incubator to bleed off a little humidity (it was nearing 90% with the others hatching) and quickly pulled that egg out and closed the incubator.

The egg is clean and doesn’t have any unusual smell or anything that I can tell.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

As an update, I went outside and cracked open the egg. There was no unusual smell or anything. Just a beautiful, dead turkey poult who had not quite absorbed his yolk sac. He was quite large, though. As I opened the egg, it looked like there was almost no room for an air cell.

When your humidity is too high the chick gets too big in the egg and cannot turn to zip itself out of the egg. Too much humidity can also drown chicks and make them sticky. Next time you hatch try 30% or lower humidity.
