Pipping?

They've started to wiggle a lot more and 1 is starting to make the pip longer so I think it maybe could be starting to unzip! When I whistle to them they wiggle. Are pieces of shell meant to fall off when they unzip cause the shell is kind of just sticking out? It's the top 1 on the left corner. The ones on thr orher side of the bars are probably infertile but i didn't want to risk it.View attachment 3957025

Pieces may or may not fall off but it's OK if they do! The main thing about hatching eggs is, Patience!!!!!

I got up so early this morning to find 3! And 4 of the 5 eggs left have pipped. When do I take them out of the incubator as I read they can only be in there 36 hours?

As soon as they are dry. Do you have a brooder already setup and ready for the hatchlings? I personally don't let mine stay in the incubator longer than 12 hours after hatching. If you open the incubator quickly and remove the chick's it doesn't affect the pipped eggs, if it's not opened for long....just a few seconds.

Yes I have the brooder set up. I'm planning to brood them inside until they're nearly adults

They turn into maniacs a few hours after hatch: kicking eggs, dragging younger chicks around by the toes, peeping all night and keeping your kids up…regular little hooligans! I toss them in the brooder when I have a couple up and causing problems, I’ve even taken a few sulky late hatchers that thought they were just too weak or lonely to live and wouldn’t even try getting up a couple hours after hatch and still a little wet and tossed them in with the slightly older chicks, sibling rivalry perked them right up! I wouldn’t leave them in more than 24 hours, most of mine are out in 6 or so unless an overnight hatch. My humidity is also ridiculous so they never fully dry out until the brooder. Have fun!

I'm going to put then in their brooder in around 1 and a half hours. I was away all morning so hopefully there will be more. The biggest 1 (the second oldest) drags the smallest 1 by its wing but then the small 1 pecked his toe! They're so funny

I would put them into the brooder as soon as they're dry. I would also put some grippy shelf liner into that brooder. what you have in there is pretty smooth, which can cause leg problems in your chicks.

As noted by @Nabiki , grippy shelf paper or hardwood shavings can be used for the bedding. Need to get the temperature set under the heat plate, should be between 90 - 95°F for the 1st week after hatching. Your also going to.need a top to cover the brooder. Hardware cloth works good but so does metal poultry netting, just want them not to be able to fly out of the brooder....which they can within a week after hatching.

I put them in the brooder but they're not that interested in food water or scrambled egg, are they meant to be constantly cheeping not loud distressed ones but continuous ones?
