my duck egg is due today. It has cracked the shell at the top by its self yesterday and has increased the crack this evening. I have put some wet tissue paper in the incubator over last few days. How long can it take? how do i know if it needs help?

It can take up to 48 hours. Make sure you leave the incubator closed. Sounds like everything is going fine.

Thanx, i will hold my breath! I will post when it hatches. It will be going to a friend and she will get some little ones from the breeder to keep it company

Don't hold your breath! 48 hours is a long time to go without oxygen!

Yes, 48 hours is about right. Keep that incubator closed and find something to do with yourself that is absolutely riveting and, preferably, away from the house. You are going to drive yourself crazy over the next two days and if you are by the incubator it will be even worse. Trust me--this is coming from a woman who doesn't sleep for two nights straight when she has eggs pipping!
