We just yesterday seperated the flock, kept all the girls (20) in the coop with the roos we picked to keep (6), and put the rest of the future arctic explorers (15) in a seperate pen & house. Today, one of the orp roos in with the girls seems to be "terrorizing" everyone in the pen.

How long should we wait to see if he settles down a bit, or do we chuck him into the other pen and replace him with another choice?

You can wait a week or so, but I wouldn't give him much longer than that (especially if you have 15 backups).

Also, 6 roos for 20 hens is a LOT of roosters - you really don't want more than 2 for that number, unless you have a really good reason. Ideal roo ratio is from 1:10 to 1:25.

I would toss him in the freezer group... I WONT keep mean roos ... They are to hard on my girls and they taste LOVELY......

We kept 3 from each, orps and favs... my wife's decision, not mine lol...

I'm just not sure if it is "establishing the new pecking order" after the move, or if he's just gonna be this way...
