I picked up my 5 Barred Rocks from the feed store this past Monday.
All seems to be going well. The chicks are active and kind of conk out
laying face down in the wood chips. couple of pics attached. They are pretty
funny...and seem to be growing.

I have a couple of questions I could use some help with:

The chicks are about a weeks old. I notice they are
scratching up the wood chips with their feet, down to the floor
of the crate they're in... and then pecking the floor. I'm wondering
if I should throw some grit or food into the wood chips so they can
feel like they're "finding something". Any suggestions?

Should I be giving them any other food... other than their chick starter....
some yogurt, or finely chopped up veggies? or is 1 week a bit too young?

Since the weather is getting warmer... I'm wondering if I could bring them outside,
keeping them in their cage but maybe putting them in their run for fifteen minutes or
so.... any thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestions and help.

They look good, I would keep them on the starter for now, you don't want to mess up their digestion. As long as its warm they would love it, but you have to keep a close eye on them and make sure they dont get chilled.

u can toss some of their chicks rumbles in their bedding for them to "find"...mine have fun with that and will scratch for hours! Congrats on ur new babies! I have 2 BR's, Sweet Pea & Ethyl, and they r very friendly chickies!
