I bought a broody hen yesterday. She's in the coop in the enclosure. That's where the other hens always lay so I blocked the door to it. I put more nest boxes on the top of the enclosure for them. She's laying on eggs but with all of the commotion of hens going in and out, I'm afraid she won't be able to get settled enough to stay broody. She'll lay on the eggs and when another hen comes in there to get into the nest boxes, I think she's getting startled.

My husband won't let me put her in my closet where it's cool and dark or in the house period! I have a shed but it's hot in there. I don't want to keep her in the coop. Any suggestions?

I didn't know where to put this post. Thanks!

Maybe cover her box with something. A curtain, or something like that for privacy. It helped my broody settle to be out of view.

The whole idea of her being moved to a new place with new hens and a new pecking order will completely shock her body out of broodines, even if she stays broody, a pecking order will have to be worked out between her and the original flock. She will hardly get enough food/ water. It is best to completely separate her !

I don't know where to put her. Poor thing!
