Just want to get some advise on two things-- how long does it take to build up the humidly in a hova bator 1602N that's what I am using. (no fan) I followed instruction and filled channels with water. I"m asking just in case it does not get to proper humidity level I will have to act. I am locking down as I type this.. I also wondered if eggs should be clustered together or separated by space in lock down..?

It usually doesn't take long at all to get the humidity up especially in the styro bators. I usually cover my vents for about 15-20 minutes when I first add my water and sponges for lockdown and then once it's up just above the range that I use for hatch I uncover them again. It usually holds pretty well. Egg placement isn't a big deal. I've had many eggs and had them clustered closer together (mainly so the majority of them is in the viewing spots) and I've had them spaced farther apart. As long as they aren't tight together so they can turn and push when it's time to hatch the should be fine.

Hi Ann, thanks for the reply I was hoping you were on. I read your posts-- great info thanx ! I will put both plugs in I had one out . just wondering about egg placement thought maybe if eggs were not touching they might have a harder time piping in a rocking rolling eggs.. I have them close in a group.

thanx again !!

Wow, I am watching my humidity trying to get it up to 70 + and I have had trouble in the past getting it up to 70. I have followed hova bators instructions that came with the incubator.--> fill channels 1 & 2. I was going to the sponge method this trip, but after cruising the net I found a PDF file the same instruction sheet I have --> but under "hatching" it reads differently than mine??? Quote; fill both center
and outer troughs with water. I did it and bingo I'm @ 72 and rising with plugs in. Problem solved !! If it does not go higher than 72 is this good enough?

Great! Yes, 72 is fine. Make sure you have removed the plugs though. It's fine to use them as a humidity boost, but you want them out for hatch so the littles get lots of oxygen. The recommended is at LEAST 65%, so if you're up in the 70's that's great you have extra wiggle room if you need to open the bator. Just make sure that if you do open that you have a wet sponge or water near the bator in case you needa to add humidity if it lowers. Good luck on your hatch!

Its afternoon now, and the Bator has stayed great for temp, and a 69 -70 humidity... happy day !!
