Hi I attempted to place 3 chicks (in the day I know that was wrong) under my hen who has been broody 3+ weeks on fake eggs. She was clucking and happy as long as they stayed under her, but when 1 came out she tried to make it go under-and when it wouldn't she got mad. Her hackles came up and she started pecking for real, then she pecked the ones under her.

I took them out. Can I try again tonight or is it a fail?

I would try again, but be prepared to take care of them yourself just in case. Also, try slipping them under her from the back so she doesn’t see them. I would recommend you’re out at the crack of dawn to see how they’re doing tomorrow morning.

I did and they are fine! They pecked her eye today and she didn’t even blink!
