planning again

Last year at this time I had planned on getting some chickens, that fell through. so now this year I am planning again. What would you think would be good starter chicks and if I buy them from Family Farm & Home store how long before they will lay eggs?
I really wanted brown eggs too but I think all they carry is white. Also I think all they have is bantams? do they have white and brown ? I think I should go to a library and get a book or two.lol

Our family farm and home store has only had brown egg layers such as barred rock, hubbard isa's and sex-links. You could always ask them when they would be getting brown layers. They won't start laying for awhile, around 20 weeks or more. If tsc is around, they also sell chciks. Our TSC starts next week.
