Plans for 2021

Lol! Actually there is no limit on chickens at our location, but we could do a lot more with our resources elsewhere, this state is killing us with the high cot of living among other things.

We are building up our flock, setting up 2 breeding pens one will be Ayam Cemanis undecided on second breed currently. Adding bee hives to the farm as well.

Cool, I want bees but my little brother is really allergic so it is not an option:hmm

One of my local friends keeps bees with her family. She is severely allergic as well. They just take precautions. She said her daughters walk around barefoot and are near the hives often with very little issue. She did get stung once tho

I'm getting a new flock! I ordered 15 chicks from Meyer, a Golden-Laced Wyandotte, a Delaware, 3 Easter Eggers, 5 "production pack" mix, and 5 "assorted rare breeds"! Previously, I had 2 Silver-Laced Wyandotte and a Plymouth Barred Rock, so my experience is minimal going from such a small flock of 3 to 15 (hopefully) hens.

Before they get here, I need to build a brooder, order chick supplies, like a warming plate because the heat lamps terrify me. Thinking 3 105-qt Totes is a good amount of space for chicks, food, water, heat source, etc...my plans include over-thinking the access from one box to the next and being able to secure them individually as "hen hospitals" later.

Then, I need to turn my larger coop about 90 degrees to free up a little more ground space in the run, build quite a few more roosts in that coop, I want to switch from the big open feeder to the easier to manage PVC feeders. I need to add another water source, ordered some Horizontal nipples because I just loved the vertical nipples for my other girls. And a later project (over the summer) s to get enough nest boxes up for all the laying to commence! I figure I need at least 5 boxes...with the old cat pans my other hens used, plus the 1-2 in the smaller coop I was given, I need at least 2 more.

Then there's all the "non chicken" stuff going on in my life...life is busy, but very good!
