I'd love to see some photos of your tanks! Like you, I have definitely found the cost adding up! My lighting is nothing special and my tanks are both low tech, so I can only imagine what some people spend and how much work they put into this hobby. They're so beautiful to have around, though!
SamG, I have 2 small ponds outside that are too shallow to maintain fish throughout the winter. I figured that I'd give them a really beautiful place to "vacation" until Spring! Even when they're back in their pond, the tank will still be nice for us to look at. I was pretty careful about what plants I chose. They're all generally plants that goldfish won't pick at and are tolerant of low light conditions and cold temps. So far, so good!
