I'm considering planting a 0.10A plot of forage for my ducks. Tried Alfalfa last year, but in a different location. I was unable to keep the ducks off the plants last year, and of course they ate it all. This year some Alfalfa has returned, but again the ducks are eating it. Which is the point, I know! What else should I be considering? What about Buckwheat or Sudangrass? Anyone? Thanks!

Uhm... Mu ducks love nettles and that grows without much effort from me in my garden. ;-)

Im growing oats for mine. I also am growing some veggies for them too. I'm not a big veggie eater so I just bought stuff to make a tossed salad. Like carrots, tomatoes, some kind of lettuce, cucumbers, and broccoli because I like it. I also bought marigolds because I heard. That ducks like them and well they didn't last long lol. My ducks and I are big fruit eaters but my mom plants all that stuff so I just get it from her.

I was reading today that the oat straw is quite valuable for bedding, too. We'll see if it lasts that long!

How do you sow your oats? I just broadcast them along with a bunch of beans and sunflowers. Forgot to buy the alfalfa.

This is my first stab at gardening so I'm not quite sure what to really do. I've got my oats growing in their own spot. I'm using white oats as they are more tolerable to the northern NY climate. They use up a lot of water and I'm thinking of using the left over stalks as bedding, not sure how that will work out though.

Well last Fri my flock ate I think every single oat seed that I planted. So last night I bought 50# and scattered some more. We'll see.
How tall were they Holly? the oats not your flock.
