I bought my Appaloosa/Morgan cross as a yearling. Gentled her and broke her myself. It was a great experience and I miss her to this day.

Hello everyone. Went on two walks today, sat outside for 10-15 mins each twice, finished watching the movie I started yesterday, obviously cooked too (twice), etc. LOL

I enjoy freeze drying since starting in the summer of 2024.
Here is an experiment that I did yesterday, my vision was a puffy fruit leather.
I started with eighteen cups of windfall no name pasture apples, boiled for thirty minutes, 2 cups of raw honey and 12 oz of coconut milk. The apples were boiled in the coconut milk with the honey being added just before going into the freeze dryer.
I blended the apples and coconut milk to an apple sauce consistency, it was pleasantly smooth and creamy.
The experiment was largely a failure as far as success is determined. When the mixture froze in the freeze dryer it went all over the chamber, yeah not a pretty sight!
However, one out of five pans, the bottom one, had a decent example of what I was going for, not what I had imagined, but still decent.
The mistake I made was adding too much honey, I knew I was taking a bit of a chance adding that much but I did it anyway, I won’t do that again.
The mess I created by “going against knowledge” is not worth the effort.
The one pan that turned out decent is almost heavenly delicious, but I ain’t doing it like that again!

I am reconstituting four pans, I’m not sure what I’ll use it for, but it won’t go to waste.

I had to sell her when I was about 28 years old. My parents were forced to sell their rural home in order to bale out my brother who was ready to default on a loan. I was at home, still recovering from rheumatic fever and they were supporting me so I made the painful decision to sell my two girls. Billie was half appaloosa half Morgan and Missy was half appaloosa half quarter horse. Both went to good homes but how I lost them is one of the reasons I like a lot of miles between me and my family.
