I've planted mint in my chicken run, and they seem to like it...it also spreads like crazy. Sunflowers would probably be a good idea, as they can provide a little shade and also offer seeds. As suggested before, it would probably be best to do the deep litter method.

My flock loves hostas! They continue to destroy the same colored hostas every year, the green hostas with a white border on each leaf. This must be tastier than the other hostas. These could go on the shade side. And herbs would be great on the sun side.
