But what many people don't think about is that it can be only the stalks, only the seeds, etc that are toxic and the rest fine.. Like polk salad for example, it is in the Nightshade family, same as potatoes and tomatoes/peppers.. It's only poisonous to them by eating the stalks, but they pick the leaves and berries off all the time.
I think the only time you would have to worry about chickens eating anything like that is if you were tempted to mix it up in their feed or hand it to them. Handing it to them a lot of the times will cause them to eat it because they see you as one of the flock (usually), you're the feeder, and typically when another one of the flock shows something to the others it means "It's alright to eat" or they will just eat it from your hand because of curiosity.
