Plasson Bell Waterer and LG Poultry Fountain

Well, I may try one of the founts later on but it looks like I will first tinker with some old bells first. I was talking with my cousin the other day and mentioned the bell water to him. He has five commercial broiler houses and his parents had two layer houses in the past. The layer houses have been vacant for several years. I missed getting ahold of some metal nest boxes by only a couple of weeks a while back....somebody got them for scrap metal.

When I mentioned the bell waters he said there was a bunch of them left in the house to get what I wanted!!! So...might be a little old and might have to replace some o-rings, valves, or whatever but I might've just found the waterers for my cheap gravity fed system!

I'll keep ya'll posted how it works out. This week VBS is going on and I'm cookin' some and drivin' the van so there ain't much extra time for scrounging and tinkering.

we've used bell waterers for years. Put a 50 gallon tank in the eaves of the coop. Bell waterers are always filled. Just refill the 50 gallon tank every now and again.

No problems except in the winter when everything freezes.

Thanks for the reply, eskoobie. I'm down in south Alabama so and we do get some freezing temps down here, but nothing like folks do up north. Whereabouts are you located at? When the bell waterers freeze is the valve wrecked? What make of bell do you use?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm thinking of going the 50 gallon route...maybe using rainwater.

Thanks for the feedback!

I purchased two of the Plasson Bell waterers on ebay and installed one this weekend. I also purchased, on ebay, a Watts Regulator (this is a brand name) which is adjustable from 0 psi - 60 psi. The installation went smooth and my girls lov it. I understand that these waterers work best under low (5 psi) water pressure.
I live in So.Cal

so winter freezing should not be much of a problem.
