Plastic bin brooder

So I am doing a hatch with my class this spring. I finally found a large plastic tote bin (about 3.5x2 ft) that I want to use as the chick brooder in my classroom until I take them home, but I could not find a clear one (it is silver colored).
Anyone know a good way to cut a square in the side and cover with hardware cloth or garden mesh? I think I’d also like to cut a hole in the top. This way the kids can see inside from the side and the top.
If anyone has any suggestions on the best way to do this, please let me know!

Maybe an exacto knife and hot glue…? For the top just having the whole top with mess would be good (more ventilation). Even make it open-able so you can give them plenty of cuddles

You have access to a sawzall or anything like that? The hardware cloth can be duct taped into place once you get the openings cut.
