Plastic coop made by Omlet called "Eglu"

The eglu is way too small for 4 standard chickens. 3 standard or 4 bantams is the MAX I would put in there, and if they were going to be in the coop/run all the time, I would go with 2 standard or 3 bantams.

The coop itself is about 32-1/2" wide x 29-1/2" deep x 26" tall. I'm pretty small and can't imagine trying to carry it around, although dragging/pushing it on a flat surface isn't a problem at all. To attach the run to the coop, you have to take the top outer shell off completely and use 4 large screws with big flat washers to tighten the wire up against the inside frame. Because the coop is plastic (albeit pretty heavy plastic), I would be concerned about the plastic stripping out over time if you attach & re-attach the run daily.

I have heard of folks having bears try to break into the closed eglu and not succeeding... I can actually see that. The eglu is suprisingly solid (I'm a little concerned about the air holes in the eglu though, because I think small snakes & mice could fit through). Where I have heard of eglu owners running into trouble is the run. I don't know if they were stationary, used the ground screws or not, or were on uneven ground that left tiny gaps or what though.

HTH!

I saw my first one the other day and it was really small. She had two hens in it and I would say that was the limit. The run was very flimsy, I don't know if the runs come with them and didn't even think to ask. She was thinking of putting two more hens in and to be honest I think they will definately be on top of each other. Very small.

For that much money you could buy a small garden shed and make a few changes and turn it into a coop very easily. Then you would have enough room to add more chickens, and believe me, you will!
Or I have even seen people turn playhouses into small coops.

I have a ChickNBarn and three pullets in it and it's fine - it would accomodate four I think. I have mine up on cement blocks inside a dog run which is covered over with netting to avoid hawks and I've followed Dawn's advice about latches and locks and all manner of protective Fort Knox like devices to keep out raccoons - whole set up seems fine so far. If you got the Barn and added the Yard it would be cheaper larger and more stable than the Eglu - also would not appear much more obvious to your neighbors - looks like a cute doghouse...

Absolutly!
This is the version I got at Lowes for 199.00

It is 4x4x6h and it comes with everything to assemble it. And it is pre-painted.
The money you save could be used to make a really nice run!

i purchased a dog igloo..on craigslist..used....for like $25..its for a large dog.(my saint bernard can fit in it)...very big inside...has a vent on top....top comes off for easy cleaning...i was thinking of using it as a redneck chicken eglu type thing...and use a small dog kennel fence(4x6),attached to the igloo...and move it around my yard...(but mine will go back to the main coop and pen at night).i say, why not try it....just make sure they can perch, you can make one that sits on the floor of the igloo...and make sure they have a tarp over part of the run..or shade of some kind...you can get the used igloos cheap....they have spray paint you can use on plastic now to clean them up....but if you are gonna use that as the main housing..just make sure its REALLY secure, so nothing can get in at them..good luck:D, Wendy

i bought the same one from lowes and i paid 299!!! bastards! anyway we are in the process of designing the run. have you started yours alaska animal lover? if so could you send pics i need all the help i can get! i'm in this alone husband says!!! i recruited my neighbor who is in construction but i would like to make everything as easy as possible on him! thanks for any ideas i really aprreciate it!

Well, I'd not put more than 2 birds in an Eglu. And me, I wouldnt buy it anyway. I never thought it looked like anything good for chickens, too small, plastic, WAY, WAY overpriced. I have a hard time believing so many people think it's cute. I personally think it's pretty ugly. But that's me.
