Plastic liner in hova bator

Someone gave me a hova bator that had been packed up in their garage. It still seems to work as far as I can tell. The only thing missing is the plastic tray that lines the bottom. Does anyone know if that is necessary for the incubator to work correctly? Thanks!

You'll need something to keep the water in.

A friend of mine uses sponges soaked in water, he never uses a tray?

Good move. They are made so it is easy to keep the correct humidity. Also makes clean-up a lot easier!
