Hi All,
I recently purchased a trio of Platinum Sussex (With a Single factor silver hen thrown in) and would like to know more about the color as I currently know nothing

.
For instance, what exactly is Platinum? I have been told that it is diluted silver but I need to understand this more.
How was it developed?
How would I improve the shape of my birds without detracting from the color?
What does it mean to have a single or double factor platinum or silver bird?
I just need to understand the color.
Thanks for the help,
Fancy Feathers.

Ok, what are you looking at? Two possibilities here. Either you have a blue birchen with 2 hits of blue.
Or you have a Silver Birchen with 2 hits of Silver. is the bird blur or silver?
A Platnum is caused by 2 hits of silver on either. See this website: http://www.artandverse.com/marans.html
In America, these birds are called "Platinum Marans".
Best,
Karen in western PA, USA

These birds are made by crossing a silver Sussex and a coronation Sussex. It takes a couple of generations to replace the back lb the silver Sussex with the lavender on the coronation. The first generation is a black and white bird with penciled marking.
